Benjamin Joseph Parsalaw

Benjamin J. Parsalaw is a lawyer and law lecturer at Tumaini University Makumira. He received both his bachelor (LL.B, 2011) and master (LL.M/ Human Rights Law, 2013) of laws from Tumaini University Makumira, Tanzania. In addition, he holds a master of laws (LL.M/ Environmental and Natural Resources Law, 2014) from the University of Oregon, School of Law (USA). Mr. Parsalaw also holds a certificate in Trade and Environment from American University, Washington College of Law, (USA) 2014; and a legal writing certificate from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, (USA) 2017.

Mr. Parsalaw is currently pursuing his doctor of laws at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, (USA) where he also serves as president of the doctoral law student (DLS) association. Just this year, Mr. Parsalaw was named as one of 31 recipients of the distinguished Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Scholarship, for his innovative doctoral dissertation (2017/2018). Mr. Parsalaw is a member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation; a non-profit organization devoted to academic and practical study of the laws and regulations relating to mining, oil and gas, energy, public lands, water, environmental and international law. Notably, Mr. Parsalaw delivered the LL.M valedictorian speech alongside guest speaker: congresswoman U.S Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, at Oregon Law’s 2014 commencement ceremony.

Since joining the law faculty in 2011, Mr. Parsalaw taught Public International Law, Research Methodology, Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, Environmental Law, and Labor Law.Aside from teaching, Mr. Parsalaw’s academic interests and areas of expertise include, but are not limited to:Natural Resources Law, Energy Law, Mining Law, Investment Law, Jurisprudence (Legal Philosophy),Law and Development, Legal Research and Writing. His publications include:“Uranium Mining: A Stairway to Prosperity or Highway to Impoverishment,”Journal of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS),VOL.1, 2016 No2.
