MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN FACULTY OF LAW


The Faculty of law at Tumaini University Makumira was created in 2005 to respond to the country’s and the East Africa region’s needs for highly qualified and well trained lawyers. Since its inception, the Faculty has awarded Master’s degrees in Human Rights Law (LL.M-HRs), Master’s degrees in International Law With International Relations (LL.M-ILIR), Bachelor’s degrees in law (LL.B), Diplomas in Law and Certificates in Law. Graduates of these programs serve the region in diverse areas.


The teaching and training of lawyers-in the making and lawyers at the postgraduate levels, thus seeks to equip students with basic legal scholarship as well as the specialized advanced legal knowledge, designed to impart advanced knowledge of the well selected courses through intensive research and a firm theoretical grounding, ready to serve the legal sector domestically, regionally and internationally.


The United Republic of Tanzania for example has for the past several years been engaged in comprehensive economic, political and social reforms aimed at solving problems hampering national development. The Faculty of Law therefore has over the years been responding to the needs of economic, political and social environment of the country through the training of highly, ethical and well trained lawyers. In addition, Tanzania is a member of international, regional and sub regional organizations. Our students are exposed to the opportunities that such membership can provide.


It is considered that East Africa has had many challenges, including but not limited to; internal conflicts, border disputes, criminal acts, civil disputes, poverty, starvation, drought, gender inequality, cross-border intervention, refugees, internally displaced people, environmental degradation, human rights violations, forced disappearances, scarcity of resources, bad governance, power abuse and terrorism. Our graduate programs/ LL.Ms for instance integrate such topics into the Curriculum as much as possible as the Faculty’s contribution in the efforts to salvage the East African region. The Faculty has established relations with the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPARs), the East African Community (EAC), the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) and the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (UN-MICT).

Tusekile Asajile Mwakalundwa

 

 

Ms. Tusekile Asajile Mwakalundwa - Esq, is an Assistant Lecturer at Tumaini University Makumira. She received both her Bachelor’s Degree in law in 2008 and her Master’s Degree in Law in 2011 at Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA). She later went on to The Law School of Tanzania and successfully attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Education (PGDLE) in the year 2015.She was later on admitted to the bar in December 2016. In the year 2015 she proudly accepted a full time position as an assistant lecturer back to TUMA.

Ms. Mwakalundwa currently assists in lecturing business subjects specifically; the Law of Business Associations, The Law of Contract and Sale of Goods Law. She also lecturers’ in non-degree courses in particular Records Management. In 2016 she collaborated with a colleague Adv. Benedict M. Nchalla to publish an article in TUMA Law Review Journal titled “Crossing the bridge towards Gender Equality: Sexual Harassment in the Public Sphere in Tanzania.” In the same year she was selected to represent Tanzania with 41 others as a Mandela Washington Fellow; a flagship program started by the then president of the United States of America His Excellency Barrack Obama to foster and mentor young African leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa. She generally enjoys her work at TUMA and plans to use her skills and ability to impact knowledge and to be role model to her students. She is also planning to further her studies in the near future.

Mr. Frank Luther Akyoo

 

 

Frank Luther Akyoo, teaches Law at Tumaini university Makumira faculty of law (Arusha Tanzania) since 2011. Frank Akyoo graduated with Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Tumaini University Makumira in the year 2009 and later recruited as Tutorial assistant in the year 2011. On completion of his Master of laws (LL.M-International law) from Mzumbe University in the year 2012, He was appointed Assistant Lecturer.

Mr. Akyoo currently serve as the Head of Department of Legal Method, Research Theory and Coordinates the non-degree programmes at Tumaini University Makumira Faculty of Law.


Mr. Akyoo has published Article Journal on the Local Journal owned by Tumaini University Makumira, Faculty of Law entitled “The concept of High Seas’ and Legal Principles Governing Jurisdiction over Ships Exercising the Freedom of the High Sea”. and has attended various seminars and conferences within and outside Tumaini University Makumira including: Training of Trainers workshop on environmental and climate law pharse I & II, organised by UDMS School of law in collaboration with university of Oslo under PITRO III Project held at Arusha on 2011 and 2012 consecutively and the Training on “Developing the Teaching and Learning Methodology’ organized by DANMISSION and TUMA on August 2016 to January 2017.


Mr. Akyoo teaches the following courses (among others): Legal Methods; Human Rights Law; Environmental Law; Labour Law; Criminal Law and Procedure; Environmental law; Law of contract; and Administrative law.

Sipho Limbe

HEAD OF INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STUDIES & CORPORATE AND FINANCE LAW DEPARTMENT

Mr. Sipho Limbe - Esq, is a law lecturer at Tumaini University Makumira since 13th September 2016. His specialty are in International Trade and Investment Law, Intellectual Property Law, Law of Contract, Public International Law, Law of the child, Private International Law and Jurisprudence.
Mr. Limbe is multi-skilled legal officer, an accomplished Legal Consultant in Trade and Investment Law. A holder of Bachelor Degree in Law ( LLB), Bachelor Degree in Jurisprudence ( LLB-Juris), Master of Law in Human Rights ( LLM) from University of Cape Town (SA), and Currently completing his LLD ( PhD) in South Africa at North West University.
He has worked as adjoin lecturer at Nyerere Research Center for Arcadia University USA as an International Law expert. Further, Mr Limbe is a well known consultant for MSTCDC in Human Rights and child Rights. He has worked as a consultant for Save the children Norway in Zambia in evaluation and monitoring of their programs in the implementation of Convention of the Rights of the Child. He has worked as a resource person for ESAMI in training Tanzanian Advocates in Trade Law issues.
Sipho has worked as a consultant for East African Law society in curriculum development in International Criminal Law and World vision on women protection from abuse.
Further, the is the Senior Legal Consultant with Caucus for Children’s Rights in Arusha and holds the same position at Pan African Lawyers Union as seasonal Rapporteur and Legal Adviser he is also a member.
