MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN FACULTY OF LAW

The Faculty of law at Tumaini University Makumira was created in 2005 to respond to the country’s and the East Africa region’s needs for highly qualified and well trained lawyers. Since its inception, the Faculty has awarded Master’s degrees in Human Rights Law (LL.M-HRs), Master’s degrees in International Law With International Relations (LL.M-ILIR), Bachelor’s degrees in law (LL.B), Diplomas in Law and Certificates in Law. Graduates of these programs serve the region in diverse areas.

The teaching and training of lawyers-in the making and lawyers at the postgraduate levels, thus seeks to equip students with basic legal scholarship as well as the specialized advanced legal knowledge, designed to impart advanced knowledge of the well selected courses through intensive research and a firm theoretical grounding, ready to serve the legal sector domestically, regionally and internationally.

The United Republic of Tanzania for example has for the past several years been engaged in comprehensive economic, political and social reforms aimed at solving problems hampering national development. The Faculty of Law therefore has over the years been responding to the needs of economic, political and social environment of the country through the training of highly, ethical and well trained lawyers. In addition, Tanzania is a member of international, regional and sub regional organizations. Our students are exposed to the opportunities that such membership can provide.

It is considered that East Africa has had many challenges, including but not limited to; internal conflicts, border disputes, criminal acts, civil disputes, poverty, starvation, drought, gender inequality, cross-border intervention, refugees, internally displaced people, environmental degradation, human rights violations, forced disappearances, scarcity of resources, bad governance, power abuse and terrorism. Our graduate programs/ LL.Ms for instance integrate such topics into the Curriculum as much as possible as the Faculty’s contribution in the efforts to salvage the East African region. The Faculty has established relations with the African Court of Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPARs), the East African Community (EAC), the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) and the United Nations Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (UN-MICT).

I therefore welcome you all to Tumaini University Makumira, Faculty of Law to have an in-depth engagement with its well equipped, qualified and renowned academic staff Members. You have made the right and the best choice!
